Word parts

Compound words

A compound word is two whole words joined: sunset, cupcake, bedroom. They look long and are not, because both halves are usually words the reader already knows, which makes them a confidence win early on.

Useful for teaching that longer words come apart, before syllable division proper is introduced.

Patterns and example words

Curricula that teach this

Cody generates material against the scope and sequence you already teach. This skill appears in UFLI Inspired.

Make a decodable story for this skill

Cody generates stories, word lists and worksheets constrained to the patterns a student has already been taught, so practice on compound words does not smuggle in something they have not met yet.
